Today's comic from Toothpaste for Dinner rocks.

In Murakami-related news, heard a while back there was a film of Tony Takitani at the London film fest. Anyone know what his new novel After Dark is about? It's still in Japanese of course, and at this rate the next ice age may be here before we see the translation. But we'll finally see that English version of Kafka on the Shore next year. Yay! ;)

In fairness, ang ganda ng House of Flying Daggers. The 'Echo Game' was awesome and the hot pineapple-eating cop from Chungking Express is there. So is Infernal Affairs' Andy Lau-- who, I was surprised to see, got name recall from even my officemate (I knew he was both a mainstream and critically praised actor/singer in HK, like Tony Leung, but still...). Naka-duet nya na daw kasi si Tita Shawie, plus he was in that Jerry Yan of F4 film Magic Kitchen. Hahaha!

But, I didn't like it as much as Hero (IMHO). Kiki. I was about to finish it dito sa work.

  • joel, KIKI ba ang word for the day? ;)

in fairness i agree na mas may dating ang 'hero' kesa 'house of flying daggers.' mas superb pa ang cast at mas striking ang imagery and concept. but i think it paled in comparison dahil napakagaling nga ng 'hero.' on its own terms, magaling din ang 'house of flying daggers,' it's just that most viewers, now exposed to zhang yimou's meticulous ways and eye for detail, tend to have higher expectations.

i think zhang ziyi was very good in 'daggers.' na-utilize pati ang dancing skills nya, which she already had before she got into acting. she struck me as more inexperienced in 'crouching tiger, hidden dragon.' though in 'the road home' she was good kasi simple lang naman yung role, di ganu'n ka-complex. in the world of that film, it was a fine debut.

    yun lang!
