the old brownman revival daze
gosh, the years really have this frightening tendency to just fly by. i was at tower records sm city last sunday after having a facial, and was pleasantly surprised that brownman revival's full-length debut 'steady lang' was number 12 in tower's top 25 best selling CDs. and the brownmen even have a poster in that tower branch. when i'm riding the fx to work or going home, i hear their eraserheads cover of 'maling akala' on the radio. i don't watch that much TV, but have seen their vid on MYX or MTV a few times.
i have mixed feelings about their success. i feel happy for them cos finally all their hard work from years ago when we first started hanging out with them has now paid off, but now i feel distant from it cos i've kinda outgrown them. like, in 2000 i would've caught three of their gigs in the span of one week. not anymore. now i'd rather stay home and catch up on sleep or meet up with friends and catch up with them. is this maturity?
there is an ending to fandom. but there are factors to why am not that huge a brownman fan anymore: am not that tight anymore with the people i went to the gigs with, some of the fun, more creative original members of the band left in 2003, the band members themselves kinda got big-headed at kung sino-sinong groupies ang pinatulan (so nakakawala rin ng respeto), i became engrossed with my own life, work became hellish, and basically, i grew up. which isn't bad at all.

Is that all? Didn't you feel that their music has become inherently bad? Ching! Well, I'm so happy that you have come to outgrow them. Seriously... :)

wala ako sa mood mag-launch ng discussion on the themes of brownman revival's music. dami ko kasing deadlines na hinahabol today. pero okay naman ang music nila eh. magaling sila, pero yun nga dahil wala na yung ibang songwriters sa band, na sayang kasi sila yung mga creative din, medyo kulang sa variety of sound yung debut CD nila ngayon. ah well. see you guys on friday then.
